The Intro to Agriculture class recently visited Patterson Farms, the largest family-owned maple syrup company in Pennsylvania. The field trip provided students with an in-depth understanding of the maple syrup production process, including detailed explanations of production methods and a tour of the cow barn. This hands-on experience allowed students to observe firsthand the practices involved in food production within a family-owned business setting.

During the visit, students received guided instruction on the stages of maple syrup production, from the initial tapping of maple trees to the final processing stages. The tour also included an explanation of the farm’s management practices and the integration of traditional methods with modern production techniques. The educational experience was designed to complement classroom learning with practical, real-world applications.

Superintendent Barbara Case commented on the value of the field trip, stating, “The opportunity to engage directly with agricultural operations at Patterson Farms reinforces our commitment to providing students with experiential learning that bridges theoretical knowledge and practical skills.” The visit underscores the school district’s dedication to enhancing agricultural education through immersive experiences that prepare students for future opportunities in the agricultural sector.
