On November 30, in collaboration with Nicole Delaney and the kindergarten team, members of the high school English 11-12 class visited the elementary school to read to select kindergarten students. The high schoolers, under the instruction of Rebecca Paasch and Laura Lau, selected two books each, practiced reading them in class, and then read to one or two kindergarteners. Afterward, everyone enjoyed a snack, and the "big kids" helped their reading buddies complete other fun activities. It was a great opportunity for both groups of students to work on literacy skills and for the juniors and seniors to act as role models for the kindergarten students. We hope to continue these visits in the new year!

Last Friday Mr. Dodd’s Civics classes had the opportunity to volunteer at the Food Bank of the Southern Tier. They did an amazing job spending the morning selflessly getting bags of food put together to be distributed to those in need throughout the entire Southern Tier. They were able to put together 1728 backpacks worth of food! We are so proud of them!

Hello everyone, Today our cross country team traveled to Chenango Valley State Park for the Section 4 state qualifier meet and we had a great showing. Our girls finished 3rd overall and the boys finished 2nd to bring home a plaque. We also brought home this year's section 4 class D individual champion for the boys, John Garrison. John has been apart of the Spencer-Van Etten district his entire life and has done a phenomenal job this summer and xc season representing our school. He won todays race with a time of 16:31 for a 5K, which was over a minute faster than 2nd place. John will compete in the state meet next Saturday at Vernon-Verona Sherrill and is currently slated as the 6th fastest runner in class D across the state. Congrats to John and all of SVE XC on a great season!

S-VE defeated Candor for the IAC Small School Volleyball Championship Friday night. The girls played with so much heart and battled through to finish on top. They have worked so hard throughout this season, and I couldn't be prouder.

Mrs. Jennifer Joyce traveled to New York City with the Ithaca College Faculty and students in the department of education. Jennifer serves as a mentor teacher for student teachers. The group spent a week fully immersed in a New York City public school. Her role was to supervise and support the 6 science student teachers as they observed, assisted in classrooms, co-taught and taught lessons throughout the week. The student teachers and Mrs. Joyce learned so much from the staff, the administration and the students who welcomed them and supported the group all week. Frederick Douglass Academy, located in Harlem, is a college preparatory high school. They have partnered with Ithaca College since 1991 to provide meaningful opportunities to learn and grow in an urban school setting.
