Mathalon

The Spencer-Van Etten Central School District’s fifth- and sixth-grade Mathalon teams competed in the 2025 Mathalon competition, with both teams earning top placements. Out of six teams, the fifth-grade team secured third place, while the sixth-grade team won first place for the second consecutive year.

The sixth-grade team, coached by Pam Brock and Dana Alison, included Annabella Asay, Brianna Cape, Daniel LaPlante, Ethan Maggio, Landon Carlucci, Madelyn Gentile, and Evan Montgomery. The fifth-grade team included Luna Miller, Ada LaCombe, Lyla Horton, Oliver Martin, Chase Frisbie, Harper Riley, and Daxton Smith.

The Mathalon competition challenges students to apply problem-solving skills, mathematical reasoning, and teamwork in a competitive setting. Participation in academic competitions like Mathalon helps students develop critical thinking skills and reinforces the importance of collaboration and perseverance.

The district recognizes the efforts of all students and coaches involved in this year’s competition and commends them for their dedication.
