SPENCER-VAN ETTEN, N.Y. (March 7, 2025) – The New York State Council of School Superintendents (NYSCOSS) has awarded Superintendent Barbara J. Case of Spencer-Van Etten Central School District the 2025 Appreciation Award in recognition of her leadership and service to NYSCOSS and its initiatives. Case was honored during the Winter Institute & Lobby Day on March 2, in Albany.

The NYSCOSS Appreciation Award is given annually to an active NYSCOSS member who has demonstrated exceptional leadership, contributed to the organization’s mission, and dedicated time to advancing professional development and advocacy efforts. Superintendent Case has served in multiple leadership roles within NYSCOSS, including positions on the Wellness, Curriculum and Instruction, Federal Legislative, Nomination, and House of Delegates Committees. She is also a member of the Commissioner’s Advisory Council, the LEAF, Inc. Board of Directors, and the NYSCOSS Cabinet Committee.

In addition, Case has been an advocate for NYSCOSS’s Women’s Initiative, which supports women in educational leadership. Her mentorship and commitment to fostering an inclusive leadership environment have helped expand opportunities for women in the profession.

I share this honor with my colleagues and remain committed to supporting the next generation of school leaders,” said Superintendent Barbara Case.

Superintendent Case was recognized during the Opening Keynote of the 2025 Winter Institute & Lobby Day at the Albany Capital Center. The award was sponsored by Mosaic Associates Architects, a NYSCOSS partner.
