Recently, students from Spencer-Van Etten’s Connect afterschool program took part in a meaningful community service project at the Spencer Food Pantry. The visit offered students an opportunity to learn more about the importance of community care and about who might benefit from food bank services.
Connect is a unique program designed to provide third through six graders from both the elementary and middle schools with a balanced blend of recreational activities, academic support, and community service. Offered three times a year in six-week sessions, Connect helps students grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Each session is tailored to foster a sense of responsibility and community involvement, encouraging students to make a positive impact beyond the classroom.
During their time at the food pantry, students volunteered to help with various tasks and gained a firsthand understanding of how the pantry supports local families. The experience sparked meaningful discussions about the importance of giving back and inspired students to think about ways they can contribute to their community in the future.
Spencer-Van Etten is proud of our Connect students for their hard work and dedication to serving others. Thank you to the Spencer Food Pantry for welcoming our students and helping them learn valuable life lessons through service!
