Spencer-Van Etten High School students recently took part in “Life is a Reality,” a budgeting simulation organized by Visions Federal Credit Union. This event was designed to provide students with practical experience in managing personal finances based on their chosen career paths and entry-level net pay.
During the simulation, students were tasked with making financial decisions in areas such as housing, transportation, groceries, insurance, and savings. Each student was assigned a monthly budget that reflected their potential earnings and was required to navigate real-life expenses. The program aimed to help students understand the challenges of budgeting and to prepare them for financial responsibilities after high school.
“This program gives students an invaluable opportunity to learn about financial decision-making in a controlled and educational environment,” said Superintendent Barbara Case. “Understanding how to budget and plan for expenses is a life skill that will serve them well in the future.”
The “Life is a Reality” simulation was facilitated by representatives from Visions Federal Credit Union, who guided students through the budgeting process and provided insights into real-world financial planning. Through this experience, students gained a deeper understanding of the importance of managing money responsibly and making informed choices about spending and saving.
The district extends its gratitude to Visions Federal Credit Union for bringing this valuable program to S-VE High School and for supporting the financial literacy of its students.
